Liberal Marxist?

Basically at this point there are Democrats, there are Republicans, there are Libertarians (aka Tea Baggers), and then there are Liberals:

Seriously – this is the so called Liberal “marxist” president. The same one who uses Orwellian “state secrets”, who expanded the war in Afghanistan, who sold out single payer, who built the Kill Social Security Deficit Commission (aka Catfood Commission), who has ordered assassinations on American citizens without due process, who cut taxes (for better or worse), who mocks his own “base”, who hired Geithner and Summers, who’s own main guy says “Fuck the UAW”, who ignores the need for Keynesian stimulus leaving all of us to suffer in endless high unemployment, who supports kangaroo courts (aka military tribunals), who increased drone attacks on a sovereign ally, who has demanded exactly zero accountability for the crimes of the Bush administration, who lies about the end of combat operations in Iraq, who has simply shifted Guantanamo to Bagram, who continues to exercise “extraordinary renditions” (ie: supports torture, albeit by proxy), and who continues to fight to deny habeas corpus.

With Democrats like that, who needs Republicans?

Do they really believe some half-assed left of center scraps like the (god knows what’s in it) healthcare solution will make up for the litany of broken campaign promises? That his base will be energized simply because he isn’t “the other guys”. That sure, the country will continue to move to the right, but slower and more gently (and more stealthily) – a little more K-Y with that?

To mis-quote Die Hard:

Now, you listen to me, jerk-off, if you’re not a part of the solution, you’re a part of the problem. Quit being a part of the fucking problem and put the other guy Obama back on!

For fuck’s sake, bring back the Obama we elected.

I will give him credit for standing ground on the Bush area tax cuts on the rich, unfortunately the so-called-liberals in the Senate are too stupid to take advantage of the wedge issue.

If you’re wondering how I became aware of all of these lovely gems, the answer is the vast majority of them from the ever excellent and highly recommended Glenn Greenwald. Though others like Krugman, Delong, Taibbi, Digby, and Firedoglake are also similarly excellent and useful.

Well it gets worse.

Jezum pete Obama, you and your staff just don’t get it. To say:

The idea that we’ve got a lack of enthusiasm in the Democratic base, that people are sitting on their hands complaining, is just irresponsible

and:

People need to shake off this lethargy. People need to buck up.

and:

if people now want to take their ball and go home, that tells me folks weren’t serious in the first place

First, your base that is complaining are the ones motivated enough to vote even if you’re being a fuck up. We get the importance – even if we’re pissed. If anything by insulting them you’re probably encouraging more to sit at home – do you think anyone is going to go, “Oh, you’re right, I am being an idiot. I’m glad you insulted me because now I’m going to like totally vote.”

Second, we were serious – that’s why we’re pissed. The people who aren’t serious are the one’s who’ll just ignore your large number of foibles and go, “Oh, whatever.” Besides, if you look above, most of the foibles I’ve listed are not cases of “compromise”, but cases of successful direct action on your administration’s part – we’re not angry as much because of what you didn’t do but rather because of what you did do.

Finally, much of the angst you’re receiving is because we don’t think you are serious. If you were serious about bringing back the rule of law, I wouldn’t have had to write 90% of the grudge list above. If you were serious about “single payer” you would have stood up for it and taken your punches, rather than negotiating it away in some all to easy back room deal. If you were serious about banking reform, you would have split up the banks and wouldn’t have let Congress pull together that milk-toast banking reform crap. And if you were serious about the economy, you’d fight for more stimulus directly rather than doing stealth stimulus in small ineffective packages.

In fact, that’s the point. While I’ll give you significant credit for taking on healthcare reform at all, and yes, sticking to your guns on it, pretty much everything else we’ve watched you compromise to the point of compromise without so much as a fight. Thus it’s you who we feel need to be “serious” and “buck up”.

Anyway, I’ll be voting, don’t you worry – but neither you nor the people I’ll be voting for have earned it. Nor are your angry words encouraging me, thank you.
