My Resume

I’ve worked in professionally for a large discount retailer in the systems, networking, security, and programming arenas for the last 20+ years, much of it in leadership or management roles. My resume is here. More versions of it as well as more information in general, can be found here.

What!?

From this ABC news article:

Fukushima’s operator TEPCO said the water seeped out from the turbine building of reactor No. 2 and was found in a trench.

It was discovered to be highly radioactive, being measured at 1,000 millisieverts per hour – a dose that can cause temporary radiation sickness with nausea and vomiting for [...]

Too much certainty…

One thing that really annoys me about those in the nuclear industry is statements like these:

“Ocean currents will disperse radiation particles and so it will be very diluted by the time it is consumed by fish and seaweed, and even more by the time they are consumed by humans. There is no need to [...]

Ah, America…

10% of us lack jobs and 16% of us lack health insurance, but hey:

even Dunkin’ fucking-Doughnuts has a drive through.

Gotta have your priorities I guess.

Conservative tactics…

I’m a little hesitant to quote something that says (essentially), “Conservatives are X”, but this quote from Alan Wolfe’s, of the Washington Monthy’s, “Why Conservatives Can’t Govern”, does seem to express what I have seen “in action” of the conservative mindset well (particularly the leadership):

“Conservatives, from the days of Machiavelli to such twentieth-century figures [...]

How is it different?

Via Robert Reich, how is it different for Maine Governor Paul LePage to remove murals of commemorating the state’s labor movement because (according to his spokesman) they were:

“not in keeping with the department’s pro-business goals.”

and (from WikiPedia):

Isn’t this a sort of censorship for “insufficient ideological purity”?

Seriously – while [...]

When science and religion “mix”…

As you may well know, Mr. President, “railroad” carriages are pulled at the enormous speed of fifteen miles per hour by “engines” which, in addition to endangering life and limb of passengers, roar and snort their way through the countryside, setting fire to crops, scaring the livestock and frightening women and children. The Almighty certainly [...]

Compared to what?

So I go to my iGoogle RSS feed page and see:

That’s like saying, “Fewer murdered than by Stalin” – I mean it could be bloody anything but still horrific. For all we know there might have been less radiation released at the bombing of Nagasaki than Chernobyl.

Definitely a “Bear Shits In Woods” [...]

Not over…

Regarding the financial crisis – Anne Héritier Lachat, president of the Swiss Financial Markets Supervisory Authority, via SwissInfo.ch:

“No, it is not over. And it’s difficult to say it in Switzerland where the general situation is better than elsewhere. But there is still the problem of the debts of neighbouring states, the problem of risks [...]

Worst Case Scenario

While I’ve gone through phases, for most of my life if been conditionally pro-nuclear. That is “pro” if:

They can make general operation safe. They find a solution to the waste.

In all honesty they’ve never been able to execute the later, so it has sort of been moot to me.

On the other hand, [...]

Why they hate our “freedoms”…

As Saudi Arabia moved into Bahrain to squelch the pro-democracy movement, the United States was very quick to announce:

“We’ve seen the reports that you’re talking about. This is not an invasion of a country”

In short, giving cover to the anti-democratic Saudi regime.

With “freedoms” like this, who needs democracy?

This may be a [...]
