My Resume

I’ve worked in professionally for a large discount retailer in the systems, networking, security, and programming arenas for the last 20+ years, much of it in leadership or management roles. My resume is here. More versions of it as well as more information in general, can be found here.

The definition of a “Real American”…

Is a person who thinks they’re better than other people because they’re not one of “those people” who think they’re better than them…

That is, according to Sarah Palin of course…

Get it?

DADT where’s the religious right?

Again, I think this is a good thing:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101222/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_gays_in_military

But what I think is curious – where is the religious right on this? Why aren’t we hearing about the backstabbing of the “base” by the Republicans who passed this in the same way Obama backstabbed the left on the tax compromise?

I think [...]

Theologians asleep at the wheel…

Via Digby, a quote that really captures the issue with modern theologians:

“…the earth will end only when God declares it’s time to be over. Man will not destroy this earth. This earth will not be destroyed by a flood…. I appreciate having panelists here who are men of faith, and we can get into [...]

Another great Orwell quote…

Again, via Krugman:

The point is that we are all capable of believing things which we know to be untrue, and then, when we are finally proved wrong, impudently twisting the facts so as to show that we were right. Intellectually, it is possible to carry on this process for an indefinite time: the only [...]

Repealing DADT

Well, I will give Obama and the credit for pushing forward the bill to repeal DADT (Don’t Ask Don’t Tell):

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101218/ap_on_go_co/us_gays_in_military

I don’t know if it has any “poison pills” in it, other than I would be surprised if the 2 year tax extension wasn’t part of the compromise.

Was this worth 900 [...]

Orwell on the Spanish Civil-War…

There’s a lot to say about this (via the always excellent Krugman):

http://orwell.ru/library/essays/Spanish_War/english/esw_1

It’s easy to see where “1984″ came from (and no, surprisingly enough it wasn’t the Communists), but there are a few lines that deserve particular attention:

And the Left intelligentsia made their swing-over from ‘War is hell’ to ‘War is [...]

Republican narrative wins…

Maybe I’m just splitting hairs but:

It strikes me that this better fits the Republican mantra that failing to act is “raising taxes” rather than this being the lapse of “tax cuts”.

Whatever. Really conservatives in general are better at this whole propaganda, er, PR, game…

[...]

The more that changes…

“Same As It Ever Was”, the Spanish-American War Edition…

Pilger “conspiracy” quote…

One of the things I struggle with are things that look like conspiracies, act like conspiracies, smell like conspiracies (ok, I’m going too far) but in the end aren’t actually conspiracies, though they may as well be. I’ve called these “virtual conspiracies”, but that was never very satisfying.

However in one short phrase John Pilger [...]

Centrism, Pragmatism, Civility and the confusion thereof…

There is a lot of confusion of late regarding the terms “centrism”, “pragmatism”, and “civility”. Much of the confusion I believe is intentional, particularly on the part of this administration.

Let’s start at “centrism” as this is where much of the primary confusion lay.

First, so called “centrists” often believe because they are “centrist” they [...]
